Our blade in production
🔥 Our VG-10 steel core is a premium stainless steel manufactured in Fukui, Japan. Its high carbon content (approximately 1% to 1.2%) gives VG-10 exceptional hardness and edge retention.
🔥 Our Damascus steel consists of different types of steel with very special material properties. Both soft and hard types of steel are welded together to create an exceptionally tough and hard material.
🔥 The composite steel is then heated to red hot in a furnace and pressed and forged together inseparably by hammer blows.
🔥 In a further step, 33 layers of forged Damascus steel are inseparably joined with Japanese VG-10 core steel on each side of the blade under heat and hammer blows.
🔥 Careful final polishing with chalk gives the Damascus steel its unforgettable sheen.
🔥 Our Damascus knives are NOT etched, so you can enjoy them for a lifetime with consistent aesthetics.
🔥 A radiantly shimmering surface whose artistic Damascus structure comes to life in relief when the light plays on it.

About the SKeld® brand
About the SKeld® brand
SKeld® – Where the rare meets its origin.
A good knife is a tool. A special knife becomes a companion.
SKeld® stands for exceptional materials, precise cutting performance, and the joy of holding something special in your hands.
Our name also conveys this idea:
SELD is linguistically derived from “seldom”—referring to what is rare and special. ✨
KELD evokes Old Norse and stands for “source” or “origin”—for nature, authenticity, and durability. 🌿
From these two concepts, SKeld® was born:
Rarity meets origin.
This connection is reflected in our knives. VG10 core steel and 67 layers of Damascus steel meet three distinctive handle materials:
🌳 Olive wood—warm, natural, and unique thanks to its individual grain.
🤍 Howlite—extraordinary and elegant with natural gray and black veins.
⚫ G10—modern, robust, and clean in appearance.
As different as the materials may be, they all follow the same idea: to combine nature, precision, and design.

Olive Wood – Nature, Time, and Character
Olive wood is one of the most distinctive woods in the Mediterranean region. The olive tree has been cultivated for millennia and continues to shape the landscape, agriculture, and culture of many Mediterranean regions to this day. From a tree that bears fruit for many years comes wood with an exceptionally dense structure and a unique grain—making it a natural material that gives every knife handle its own distinct character. 🌿
🌱 From a Young Olive Tree to a High-Yielding Tree
The olive tree (Olea europaea) is adapted to the warm, often dry climate of the Mediterranean region and can grow for many decades. A young tree begins to bear fruit after a few years; however, its economic importance only becomes apparent as it ages and its canopy develops accordingly.
With regular care, targeted pruning, and proper management, olive trees can produce yields for many decades. This involves more than just fruit production: Pruning serves, among other things, to shape the tree’s crown, allow light and air to reach the interior of the tree, and regulate the balance between growth and fruit production.
This creates a natural cycle of growth, yield, care, and renewal that continues over many years. 🌱
🫒 Yield, Care & the Natural Cycle
The olive tree’s most valuable product is its fruit. Olives are used as table olives or processed into olive oil. The wood is initially a byproduct of cultivation.
Regular pruning results in branches and larger pieces of wood. Some of this can be reused in the olive grove, for example as organic matter for the soil. Larger pieces of wood, on the other hand, can be repurposed—such as for firewood, wood chips, or as raw material for various wood products.
This is precisely where the potential of a well-managed cycle lies: The tree is cultivated primarily for its fruit, while the resulting wood is reused as effectively as possible.
💪 Olive wood is a natural and renewable raw material. Its exceptional density and hardness also make it a durable wood suitable for high-quality applications.
🌳 Age, Logging, & Character
Olive wood does not form overnight. The older an olive tree gets, the more distinct its wood becomes. The extraordinary grain is the result of slow growth, the tree’s branches, and the unique development of each individual tree.
For high-quality olive wood products, healthy, high-yielding olive trees are not typically cut down solely for their wood. Rather, the available wood often comes from necessary pruning, from old trees at the end of their productive life, or from trees that must be removed for other reasons.
This allows old olive trees, in particular, to find a new purpose. In regions with a tradition of olive wood craftsmanship—especially in parts of North Africa such as Tunisia—this has given rise to a distinct artisanal industry.
🌿 Unique natural wood: Each olive wood handle has a unique grain and color, so the appearance of the knife you receive may differ from the images shown.
♻️ From the olive grove to a durable knife handle
Olive wood combines two qualities that make it particularly appealing for high-quality knife handles: its natural beauty and its distinctive material properties.
The wood is very dense, hard, and durable. At the same time, its characteristic grain ensures that no two handles look exactly alike. From a natural raw material, a handle is created that does not appear industrially uniform, but rather visibly bears the wood’s unique history.
🍃 Our handle is made of olive wood and is crafted from sustainably sourced olive wood. Each knife handle is unique in its grain.
🍃 Its natural grain makes it a special and unmistakable eye-catcher.
💪 The wood’s high density and hardness contribute to its durability and premium appearance.
♻️ When wood from pruning or from the end of an olive tree’s productive life is put to good use, and when olive groves are simultaneously maintained and renewed, a particularly meaningful material cycle can emerge.
In this way, the wood takes on a second purpose: from a material that is a byproduct of olive cultivation or the end of a tree’s long life, a durable knife handle for everyday use is created.
Nature meets craftsmanship—and every piece of olive wood becomes a truly one-of-a-kind creation. ✨
From the young olive tree, through many years of bountiful harvests and care, to wood rich in character: The Rhodos Series tells the story of a natural material that has been part of Mediterranean culture for generations. At SKeld®, this natural character is deliberately brought to the fore - in every single olive wood handle.

Round vs. octagonal knife handles
Direct comparison in terms of comfort, safety, and control
✅ Round knife handles – the better choice
- 🔪 Ergonomic hand adjustment
Fits naturally in your hand and ensures maximum control. - ✅ High comfort
Gentle curves relieve strain on the hand, even during prolonged use. - 🛡️ Greater security
Rounded transitions and finger protection reduce the risk of slipping. - ✨ Intuitive handling
Fits comfortably and securely in your hand—for complete control.
⚠️ Octagonal knife handles – clear disadvantages
- ⚠️ Increased risk of slipping
Angular shapes offer less grip when wet or under pressure. - ⚠️ Uncomfortable with common gripping techniques
Hard edges cause pressure points, especially with the pinch grip. - ⚠️ Limited flexibility
Not all gripping techniques can be performed comfortably. - ⚠️ Not intuitive
For many users, the form feels unfamiliar and uncertain. - ⚠️ Not suitable for all applications
Angular handles can make it difficult to control the knife when making fine cuts.
